Illustration Friday - Rescue

The theme for this week's Illustration Friday project is "Rescue."  Here is my take on the word, created in Painter 11 with some slight level adjustments in Photoshop.  Before working on this week's project I had been looking at a lot of Richard Scarry's work, in particular "Richard Scarry's Best Storybook Ever!" I love his images of small towns populated with all sorts of animals, who are always happily going about their daily jobs.  In my image, the fire-fighting rescue dogs, are a little worried about how they're going to manage to rescue a 4 ton lady elephant from this burning building.

  5. Wonderful work! I love Richard Scary's work as well and keep collecting his books wherever I find them and in whatever condition. Your little town could grow I think, and I will be looking for more *:)

  7. Hi Vincent, I just found your blog and love it! I dedided to follow you and saw some of my friends are followers too, what great company! Poor Ms. Elephant, but as you know, dogs are quite smart, so I'm sure they'll be up for the challenge. I love all the action and expressions! Wow, Richard Scarry what wonderful memories you've just brought back for me. I practically wore the spine off those books when I was little, they were my absolute favorites. I loved endlessly looking at all the little details he poured into his illustrations, there was always so much to find. In one of my grade school classes we wrote to our favorite authors and I wrote to him. I still cherish the letter he wrote back, it looked so genuine and seemed personal, I'm still going to believe it wasn't a form letter! Enjoy your day, cheers! Susan

  8. Please can we have a follow up illustration for when the elephant lands. Submit a word to IF 'landing' or 'bounce' or 'crater'.

The master of drawing elephants and horses and naked people who look fallibly human is Heinrich Kley b.1863 to 19 something. I've been a fan of his work since I discovered him in 1963.
